About The Watercolor Landscape Collection

The Casual Watercolor Landscape Collection

The Watercolor Landscape Collection all began with a desire to fill empty walls within my new home. I paint so much and spend so much time creating paintings for everyone else that I looked up on my own walls only to find them blank. I decided to dive into a quick and easy solution to my blank walls. I grabbed my pad of paper, a pencil, and images of my favorite places I wanted to be reminded of, places that give me calm & sweet memories, and I started painting. Well, after I turned on a movie and poured myself some tea and put my son down for a nap.. then I started painting. An hour went by and I had completed one of my favorite landscape paintings to date. I loved the simplicity of the color palette, how the colors matched my front door, how the whitecaps on the beach brought out the white trim within my home.. I was hooked. Ten paintings later, ten cups of tea, ten nap times, ten movies or music sessions, all cozied up in my home, painting away, ignoring the heat of the day here in Kansas, and dreaming of those beautiful cool summers in Maine. I'm sure you have some questions about the collection in addition to how it was born, so I have answered those below. Questions like, how will this painting look in my home? What if I have never been to Maine, can I still purchase a painting of Maine? How do I frame the painting? Read on to see how I have made this collection easy & simplistic for you to welcome any of the pieces within your home:

Why Did You Choose To Paint A Watercolor Landscape Collection?

The collection of landscape paintings all started with a desire to fill empty walls within my home with the sceneries I love. Being from Maine and living there through my season of Engagement & early Marriage, I started pulling images from my most cherished time there. I started with a few beach scenes from a couple of my favorite spots in Maine, and then continued the collection with a few more sceneries I thought would be generic enough to be cherished by anyone, whether you have been to that location or not.

What If I Have Never Been To Maine, Will These Paintings Still Go Well In My Home?

Yes! I have designed each of these paintings to be enjoyed on any wall, whether you have been to the location they are painted of, or not. They can simply be a generic coastal scene for you if you do not have a tie to the location.

How Will The Color Choices Go In My Home?

The color choices are ones that I feel will go well in any home. I hope you find a coastal landscape painting that you love and decide to snatch it up next Thursday at 8pm during the launch at nicolemaylesher.com!

What Size Are The Watercolor Paintings?

The landscape watercolor collection is a series of 9"x12" paintings consisting of mixed media materials. The mixed media materials I have chosen to use are: watercolor, colored pencil, pen, and acrylic paints. Some paintings contain all of these medias, some contain only 3 or 4 of the medias listed. The variety of media has helped add interest to each individual piece and I hope you enjoy all those details from both a distance and up close when you hang them within your home!

How Do I Frame The Watercolor Paintings?

I highly encourage you to purchase an 11x14 frame in the color and material of your choosing. The painting is sized 9x12, with the actual painting painted within an 8x10 rectangular space on the 9x12 paper. This spacing helps the painting to have space on the back of the matting. With an 11x14 frame, you will want to get an 11x14 white matte with an 8x10 opening. If this seems far to complicated, don't fear, you can easily go to your nearest art supply store with your purchased painting (I go to Hobby Lobby) and ask them for a frame & matting that goes along with the painting. They will help you buy the individual supplies or you can have them frame it for you. Whichever you choose, it will look amazing!

 Will You Paint Other Landscapes?

Yes! I promise I won't only paint landscapes/oceanscapes from Maine. I am currently painting a large collection of mountain paintings that I am hoping to launch late fall of this year! I also plan to do another watercolor collection launch very similar to this one, but of country landscapes from pictures I have taken here in Kansas! I hope with time, you will find the perfect landscape from one of my collections that resonates with you that you would like to hang in your home!

Can I request a commissioned painting of my favorite place?
